Alright, so today's episode is from a news article on Primicias, and it's an entertainment article about movies. And since it's the Christmas spirit, I thought this was perfect. The title in English is What Do the Grinch, bruce Willis and Mariah Carey have in common? All of these characters all share iconic status as Christmas characters that once novelties have become timeless classics. So, novelties is something that comes and goes with popularity. But now, they're so good that they're officially classics. Their impact has turned them into classics. So characters like Kevin McAllister from Home Alone and The Grinch have become indispensable, like a must, you have to watch them during Christmas or during the holiday season.

The Christmas tree, the nativity scene, as well as the movie Home Alone, are undoubtedly traditional symbols of these holidays. December is a month of unity among family and friends, a time to be grateful and reminisce about good moments, New Year's dinners and parties in Quito, Guayaquil. Cuenca, Manta, and Salinas bring forth iconic characters that have left a mark on generations.

So these characters have resonated with generations. I know that people from my generation, I'm a millennial, these movies are everything, okay? This is my childhood, so they have resonated with my generation. So, their family quotes, melodies, or curious appearances, like the Grinch, remind us that the magic of Christmas lies in love, generosity, and family unity.

Take, for instance, Kevin McCallister from Home Alone, who, with his ingenious homemade traps, fended off these thieves over Christmas. And actually, that actor, Macaulay, Macaulay? That's a really cool name. So the actor Macaulay Culkin, Culkin?

I should know how to say his name. Anyways, he recently received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. So, that's so cool. Good for him.

So if you haven't watched it before, He was accidentally left home alone at Christmas, and then thieves were trying to break into his house. And he was young, I want to say he was like 10 years old or something. And he was creating these like, MacGyver creative, um, ways of keeping these thieves out. So, it's a good movie.

Moving on to Die Hard, who some people say isn't a Christmas movie, um, I think it's a Christmas movie, but Die Hard, John McClane, played by Bruce Willis, has left a huge mark, a very distinctive mark on Christmas celebrations with a unique blend of action and holiday spirit. And yeah, despite the debate of whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie, it's enduring popularity proves it to be a family classic, so it's still popular. it goes beyond the typical festive narrative of, you know, that stereotypical festive Christmas vibe.

Okay, then there's the Grinch. The Grinch Originally created and written by Dr. Seuss is known for his unique sense of humor and aversion, or strong dislike towards Christmas, which is actually a rejection of the consumerism of these dates. His first appearance was in 1957. in the children's book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and he has three film adaptations, becoming so popular, everyone knows the Grinch.

The character teaches us about personal transformation during the holiday season, and the story is centered on empathy and understanding. And reinforces that Christmas is about much more than material gifts. And I love that. Because we just get so caught up in that.

This story tells us that his heart grows three sizes when he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. When the Who's of Whoville come out and they're still celebrating Christmas, even without all the Christmas gifts.

Now, Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey has been hailed as the queen of Christmas. Mostly because of her killer song, All I Want for Christmas Is You. And that is going to forever be a symbol of festive joy and just the whole meaning of the holiday spirit every year. Her commitment to preserving the magic of Christmas through her music has turned her into a holiday icon.

Her song is a timeless anthem for holidays that when unfrozen fills the air with joy for everyone. Carrie is known for being a defender of Christmas magic. Every year she finds a way to announce the arrival for the holidays, the famous, it's time. The phrase with which she starts her song is a reminder that the Christmas season has begun, the song has broken records, and Mariah Carey, earns millions of dollars every December because of it. That is crazy. Off of one song, she earns millions of dollars every December. Good for her.

Okay, Scrooge and the Christmas Ghosts. Ebenezer Scrooge. Try to say that with me. Ebenezer Scrooge is the central character in Charles Dickinson's 1846 novel, A Christmas Carol. Scrooge is known for his greed and disdain, like hate for Christmas. The story tells that over several nights he receives visits from the ghosts of past, present, and future Christmases.

The story is so cool. It is so, so well written , I mean, it was written by Charles Dickens, so obviously it's going to be an incredible story. The guy is incredible. He's so good. He's a legend for a reason. Um, so yeah, the story tells that over several nights, Ebenezer Scrooge receives visits from ghosts of past, present, and future Christmases.

And through these experiences, Scrooge undergoes an emotional transformation, kind of like the Grinch, ultimately embracing generosity and love, which is the Christmas spirit.

The novel has various film and theatrical adaptations, so you can see plays and musicals of this book, of Ebenezer Scrooge, um, and yeah, it still to this day continues to captivate people. People still go to see the plays today It still is celebrated today.

Okay. Buddy the Elf. Buddy. I actually just saw a musical called Elf, and it was about this story, and it was so good.

Anyways, um, Buddy. The Elf Buddy, played by Will Ferrell in the movie Elf, holds a special place in Christmas movie enthusiasts hearts. This 2003 comedy introduces Buddy, a human who is mistakenly brought to the North Pole and raised by elves. So, I don't know if you've seen this before, but um, he basically was a baby and accidentally climbed into Santa's sack and brought back up to the North Pole, so he was raised by elves.

It's pretty cool. Um, then Buddy journeys down to New York, which It's a huge, it's probably the place to go in the U. S. for Christmas. Um, so, awesome writing there on their part. But yeah, Buddy, who thinks he's an elf, journeys to New York where he hopes to reunite with his biological father, Walter Hobbes, um, who is played by James Caan.

Uh, but, you know, he wasn't very well received. Um. It was pretty harsh, as you can imagine, this adult man acting like an elf towards this major CEO in, uh, New York City. Yeah, he won't believe you, he'll think you're crazy. Um, but anyways, so the Elf faces challenges in the real world, providing comedic relief throughout.

It's actually, he's hilarious. Will Ferrell did such a good job, such a good job in this one. The story is really just about the importance of keeping your inner child alive and believing in the magic of Christmas because he restored You know, these adults beliefs, and faith, and Santa, and all those things, so, yeah.

Alright, Howard Langston. Jingle all the way. Howard is a dedicated family man and businessman who focuses on his professional career, but puts family time on the back burner. The character, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, finds himself in a predicament when he forgets to buy the Turbo Man toy for his son on Christmas Eve.

The movie is Both comedic and explores family themes depicting the pressure to meet Christmas expectations. The character goes through chaotic cases during the plot to get the gift for his son. Which is hilarious. Um, With comedy, the character reminds us that Christmas spirit goes beyond material things, and that the true value of the season lies in family connection.

So, whether it's laughter with the Grinch, or with Elf, um, or the timeless tunes of Mariah Carey. Each of these characters contributes to the diverse tapestry of Christmas traditions, reminding us that the season is not just about presents, but about the spirit of love, compassion, and family.

Anyways, thanks you guys for listening today. Please, now, go back and read the article in Spanish, and then come back and listen to this again, and I think you're gonna pick up on so much, so many words. Anyways, have a great day, and um, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
